Vita Smachelyuk is a Ukrainian actress based in Germany, working across film, television, and theatre in four languages.

Vita trained at the Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko - Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University - one of Ukraine's most prestigious performing arts schools. Over 20 years and 35+ screen credits, she has built a career spanning Ukrainian television, European art-house cinema, and theatre. Her stage work includes productions of Brecht, Wilde, Shakespeare and Bach at Kyiv’s Atelier-16 and The Free Theatre.

She won the Czech Film Critics' Award for Best Actress for her lead performance as Irina in Michal Blaško's VICTIM (2022), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival (Horizons), screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, and was selected as Slovakia's official entry for the 95th Academy Awards. The film also earned nominations at the Czech Lion Awards and the Slovak Sun in a Net Awards.

Her latest credit, CRITICAL CONDITION (dir. Mila Zhluktenko), had its world premiere at La Semaine de la Critique, Cannes 2025. The short film, produced by Michael Kalb Filmproduktion with BR and ARTE, explores the fates of the Ukrainian diaspora past and present.
